A brute who savagely attacked a woman he met on a date in Glasgow deceitfully told a 999 operator that she had slipped in the shower after he knocked her out cold. Michael Harvey, hailing from Cambuslang in South Lanarkshire, spun a web of lies to emergency services just moments after his appalling assault on the victim on October 1, 2023. In a chilling call to the ambulance service, the 32 year old feigned innocence, claiming the woman had taken a tumble following “having a good drink”.
The vile Harvey informed the call handler: “I went into the shower and the next thing you know man, she was just lying underneath the water. I turned the water off immediately, dragged her out of the bathroom and put her into the recovery position. Then, she started foaming at the mouth. That’s when I contacted reception to get an ambulance phoned as I have got no money in my phone. She did have a good drink last night I will be honest pal, she did have a good drink, do you know what I mean?”
“Maybe she slipped and fell”, reports the Daily Record.
Upon being queried if his then 39 year old unconscious victim was awake, Harvey responded: “She’s not awake but she’s breathing.” Harvey faced justice for his attempt to murder the woman, with a conviction at the High Court in Glasgow last month. City centre CCTV footage damningly showed him brutally assaulting the woman.
CCTV footage captured Harvey in various city hotels, where he was seen shouting aggressively and wildly gesticulating at a woman during a night out. The prosecutors presented video and audio evidence of Harvey’s brutality and deceit. The recordings revealed the extent of the savage and abusive ordeal the woman endured for hours at the hands of Harvey. In one harrowing video, Harvey is seen carrying the severely injured woman through a hotel corridor, his face smeared with blood, towards their booked room.
Once inside the hotel room, the abuse escalated behind closed doors, resulting in the woman being placed in an induced coma due to serious head injuries. The court was informed that the pair had been on a date and Harvey referred to the woman as his partner. On Friday, July 18, Harvey received a nine-year prison sentence and was issued an indefinite non-harassment order.
Moira Orr, the national lead for Homicide and Major Crime at the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), commented: “Over the course of an evening, Michael Harvey used appalling violence and threats to exert brutal control over a woman who had gone on a date with him. CCTV enabled our prosecutors to share significant evidence of his brutality and threatening behaviour which was exhibited in public view as well as in private.
“Our thoughts are with the woman who has suffered such terrible trauma and injuries but whose bravery has contributed so much to this prosecution. Violence against women and girls is a blight on our society. As this case shows, abuse can go on in plain sight as well as behind closed doors. We must all be vigilant. COPFS will use every tool at our disposal to pursue justice and ensure perpetrators face the consequences of their actions.”
