On Tuesday it was announced Sherif Lanre had left Love Island villa as he had “broken villa rules” but details as to why he had left were not given.
Now Sherif has revealed his exit was down to him accidentally kicking Molly-Mae Hague in the groin.
He told The Sun: “I did kick Molly-Mae in the groin area but it was an accident and she 100 per cent was not injured afterwards.
“She did appear to be in pain at first but then she stood up and seemed fine and we started laughing about it.”
He continued: “I turned to Tommy and said, ‘That was a c**t punt.’ I realise now that was wrong and I would like to apologise. I’ve never used the word before and I don’t know where it came from. I think I have heard other people saying it and it just popped out.
“But I realise it can be offensive and, as someone that was raised by a strong and loving mother, I want to say that I would never intentionally harm a woman.”
An ITV spokesperson told Express.co.uk: Sherif fully accepted and agreed that he broke the rules and that he should leave.
“We have a duty of care towards all of the Islanders and as such we would not make public the details of the breach of code.”
Fans were quick to comment on Sherif’s exit with many claiming Maura Higgins should also be axed.
On Friday night’s episode, the 28-year-old could be seen trying to kiss Tommy Fury as he decided to sleep on the sofa alone.
“You don’t want a kiss?” Maura asked before trying to plant a kiss on his lips.
Tommy sternly replied: “No. You can kiss me on the cheek,” as he turned his head away from her.
Maura’s actions prompted outrage from viewers and now, many have claimed that she should follow Sherif out of the villa.
Taking to Twitter to comment, one fan said: “So if Sherif’s behaviour towards Molly was unacceptable and not correct in the villa. Then please tell me why Maura is allowed to stay in for forcing her self onto Tommy?!?! Double standards and definitely not okay #loveisland.”
Another added: “Can’t help but feel p**sed off about the double standards of the #loveisland producers.
“How can you justify Sherif’s punishment for accidentally kicking Molly-Mae in the vagina, but not even bat an eyelid when Maura clambers all over Tommy and forcibly tries to kiss him?”
A third continued: “So Sherif got kicked out for accidentally kicking Molly-Mae in the groin and then making a joke about it. I hope Maura is being kicked out for forcing a kiss on Tommy. No double standards in 2019 pls #LoveIsland.”
“If that’s the real reason Sherif got kicked out it’s pretty AF & Maura should be removed for violating Tommy (& the viewing publics eyes) with her weird forcefulness #loveisland,” someone else shared.
Maura is currently competing with Molly-Mae for Tommy Fury’s affections and it seems the boxer’s torn over the two.
On Friday, he told the boys he was more attracted to Molly-Mae but will he pursue a romance with Maura?
Love Island airs tonight on ITV2 at 9pm.
