As Chief Whip of Reform UK, a party that would likely win power if there were a General Election tomorrow, Lee Anderson has a lot on his plate.
Nevertheless, the Ashfield MP likes to put his feet up when he can and enjoy a good movie.
When the 58-year-old recently bumped into me, the Daily Express film critic, he asked what my favourite film was.
I said Back to the Future – today is, in fact, the 70th anniversary of Marty McFly going back to said future in the original movie.
Returning the question back to Lee, it turns out his favourite film is another classic directed by Robert Zemeckis with music once again composed by Alan Silvestri.
Lee enthusiastically proclaimed his favourite film to be Forrest Gump. The 1994 Tom Hanks classic about an Alabama man and his life through the mid-20th century went on to win six Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. Naturally, I had to ask the Reform MP what it was about the film that made it so rewatchable for him.
Lee said: “Forrest Gump is one the few films that I can watch over and over again. The attraction is that it’s about an underdog who becomes a huge success at everything he does without really realising it. He is loyal, caring, hardworking and very trustworthy. The world would be a better place if we had more Forrest Gumps.”
Forrest Gump is streaming now on Netflix, ITVX and Paramount+.
