Kompany loses AGAIN after stepping down as Anderlecht matchday manager, gets injured and could miss Man City testimonial

VINCENT KOMPANY’S nightmare start at Anderlecht continued with another defeat – and he could miss his own Manchester City testimonial.

After naming himself captain and stepping down as matchday manager in the week, Kompany came off injured in the second half against Genk, seemingly with a hamstring problem.

That could see him unable to play in his Man City testimonial on September 11 at the Etihad.

Anderlecht fell to a 1-0 defeat to the Belgian champions, meaning they have bagged just two points out of a possible 15.

A forlorn Kompany was forced to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines sat on a cool box, with ice strapped to the back of his bandaged leg.

Appointed player-manager at the start of the summer, the defender is now also captain of the struggling giants.

STEPPED DOWN AS MANAGER

It means assistant coach Simon Davies is in charge of matchday tactics.

Kompany had only juggled the role of player/manager for four league matches but Anderlecht have started the Belgian Pro League season terribly.

An opening day defeat was followed by two 0-0 draws and any optimism coming from those clean sheets was wiped away by a stunning loss at Kortrijk on Saturday.

Another former Manchester City man, Samir Nasri, put the Brussels club ahead before four second-half goals resulted in a 4-2 loss.

And things weren’t going to get any easier with a Thursday night trip to champions Genk.

And so it proved – Mbwana Samatta scored the only goal of the game to leave Anderlecht and Kompany 13th in the 16-team Belgian league.
