Inside Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli’s five-star getaway in Cairns – as the Married At First Sight couple unwind after THAT Elbowgate drama
Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli have been enjoying a much-needed holiday, after finding themselves at the centre of the ‘Elbowgate’ scandal involving the Sunrise breakfast team.
The Married At First Sight lovebirds are currently soaking up the sun in Cairns, Queensland, where they are staying as special guests at Riley, a Crystalbrook Collection Resort.
Located at the northern end of Cairns’ waterfront boardwalk, the five-star establishment offers unspoiled views of the Coral Sea, a lagoon swimming pool and sustainably designed suites.

Riley prides itself on its ‘playful sophistication’ and ‘chic, comfortable accommodation’ that follows contemporary resort trends of being eco-friendly.
Adopting a minimalist aesthetic, suites feature recycled wood, floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, whitewashed walls, plush carpets and bespoke designer furniture.
Guests can unwind by the stunning lagoon pool, which spans over 1,000 square metres, or at the private man-made beach. Alternatively, they can sip cocktails at the Riley’s rooftop bar.

One of the spa’s signature specials is ‘Couples Therapy’ – offering a foot treatment, massage and facial at a rate of $325 per person.
Those wanting to see the sights can make use of the resort’s complimentary bicycles, while those with culinary interests can dine at one of three restaurants.

Martha and Michael’s romantic getaway comes after the couple found themselves at the centre of the Elbowgate scandal involving the Sunrise breakfast team.
The morning after the Logie Awards, Sunrise host David ‘Kochie’ Koch accused Martha on air of ‘elbowing him in the ribs’ while barging through the red carpet the previous night.
Martha later denied being anywhere near Kochie at the awards ceremony, and photos obtained by Daily Mail Australia appear to support her version of events.
The whole saga, which rumbled on for more than a week, was dubbed ‘Elbowgate’ in the Australian press.

WHAT IS ‘ELBOWGATE’?
The Elbowgate saga began when David ‘Kochie’ Koch told his Sunrise co-hosts last Monday (July 1) that he was ‘bruised’ after being ‘elbowed’ by Martha on the Logies red carpet.
Kochie and his colleagues Sam Armytage, Natalie Barr and Mark Beretta mocked Martha, saying the incident supposedly happened as she was trying to be photographed.
Martha hit back in a YouTube video later that day, denying the incident and calling the Sunrise team ‘bullies’.

Last Wednesday (July 3), Kochie told Daily Mail Australia: ‘All I’ll apologise for is putting myself in a dangerous position between her and a photographer’.
Following Kochie’s refusal to apologise, Martha once again denied ‘assaulting’ him and said the whole saga was causing her ‘stress and anxiety’.
Sam kept the feud going last Thursday (July 4), taking another swipe at ‘pushy’ Martha while speaking to Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa.
