A woman who was stunned to find a giant mushroom that was “twice the size of her head” on a country walk said the vegetable fed her family for a whole week.

Alissimon Minnitt, 27, was walking with her father in a field in North Marston, near Winslow in Buckinghamshire, when she spotted a large white object in the grass.

At first the musician assumed someone had fly tipped, however after she touched the object she was amazed to uncover a massive 5kg (11lb) mushroom.

After taking it home, the huge vegetable fed Ms Minnitt and her family for a whole week and even left them “a little bit sick” of mushroom-based meals.

She said: “I was so shocked when I realised it was a mushroom. It honestly was about twice the size of my head.

“It fed my family for a week… I’ve been eating it ever since. I still have three slices left in my freezer. I’ll be honest – I’m a little bit sick of it.”

The family made four different dishes with the mushroom, including a mushroom-base pizza, a meatloaf, a roast and mushroom steaks.

Ms Minnitt added: “I was surprised by how much we were able to get out of it.

“My mum found a recipe on TikTok.

“We used the actual mushroom as the base for the pizza. That was nice.

“The mushroom roast my mum made was so good so I took some of it home frozen.”

The rest was sliced, put into boxes and frozen, to be used at a later date.

Ms Minnitt seems to have a knack for finding large mushrooms, as in 2017 she found another giant, but slightly smaller, mushroom.

She explained she knew what shapes and colours to avoid. Experts say people without such knowledge should not take any risks with mushrooms.
