MATTHEW SOUTHGATE is at it again in The Open Championship.
The Southend-born star beat cancer in 2015, and has since recorded superb finishes of tied-12th and tied-6th in his home Major.

How old is Matthew Southgate?
ORIGINALLY from Essex, Southgate burst onto the scene in 2010 as an amateur after winning the St Andrews Links Trophy.
He turned professional later that year and played on the Challenge Tour in 2011.
For the next few years he struggled with form, before a diagnosis of testicular cancer in 2015.
It was caught early after he had played in the Aegean Airlines Challenge Tour in July, and by September he was back playing again after successful treatment.
This summer’s Open Championship at Carnoustie is the fifth Major he has competed in.
Born in October 1988, he is currently 28 years old.

What are his golfing achievements?
SO far, that sixth-placed finish in the 2017 Open is Southgate’s career best.
At the US Open, he missed the cut earlier this year and is yet to feature in the Masters or PGA Championship.
But it’s on home soil where he appears to perform best – and memorably bagged an emotional T12 in the 2016 Open, just a year after beating cancer.

Following his final round at Troon, an emotional Southgate said: “It’s been a roller-coaster year for me.
“I always had the belief inside I’d get over the health issues and be back in an Open Championship, but to do it within the year and to have my family here, it is a big achievement for me.
“If you had asked me last year, I’d have said it was possible for me to qualify. But to finish up there comfortably in the top 20, no one would have had a one-pound bet on that.”
