Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield ‘could replace axed Jeremy Kyle Show with bumper This Morning in new ITV schedule’

HOLLY Willoughby and Phillip Schofield could front a bumper edition of This Morning to replace the axed Jeremy Kyle show, it was reported last night.

Bosses are considering a brand new ITV morning schedule that would see the telly favourites take to screens at the earlier time of 10am.

ITV bosses have been struggling to come up with a permanent replacement for the slot left behind by the axed Jeremy Kyle show[/caption]

They would fill the extended slot with a new feature showcasing viewers’ “funny letters and emails”, according to the Mirror.

It would form part of a total overhaul of the ITV schedule – with bosses hoping to make mornings feel like “more of a live event”.

At 6am, the line-up would kick off with a 30 minute news bulletin before newsreaders pass over to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain.

Then, Piers and Susanna would hand over to Lorraine Kelly at 9am – before she in turn passes the baton on to Holly and Phil at 10am.

Presenters would chat to each other as one show passes on to the next, according to the proposal submitted to an ITV focus group.

It says: “From crying with laughter at naughty pictures innocent kids have drawn to recalling personal funny and relatable anecdotes.

“Nothing is off limits as they talk about the stories and pictures of the day that have grabbed their attention.”

ITV want the shows to have a “the feel of a continuous live broadcast featuring favourite and familiar faces”.

The proposal says: “The show would have more interaction between the end of each show and a smoother handover between presenters into the next show.

“Eg. Lorraine may chat with Phil and Holly to hand over each day.”

The 9.25am to 10.30am slot has been temporarily filled by Judge Rinder since Kyle’s show was canned following the suicide of a guest.

ITV has been agonising over a permanent fix to replace its most popular daytime programme – that regularly attracted one million viewers.

It was pulled following the death of Steve Dymond, 63, who took his own life shortly after failing a lie detector on the show.

ITV bosses have been fearful of introducing a programme similar to The Jeremy Kyle show in case it draws comparisons and struggles to build an audience.

An ITV source said Holly and Phil – each on around £600,000 – were the “natural No1 choice” to fill the empty slot.

But another channel insider insisted no decisions had been made – and that bosses were “looking at different ideas”.
