Gymnast Katelyn Ohashi performs handstand in heels on red carpet before accepting two ESPY Awards

Former UCLA gymnast Katelyn Ohashi demonstrated an epic handstand in heels while on the red carpet of the 27th Annual ESPY Awards at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The Seattle-born 22-year-old flashed her dimpled smile and little white shorts beneath her white-lace jumpsuit as she held the pose for several seconds for photographers.

It was an even more impressive feat of strength considering Katelyn underwent double shoulder surgery just two years ago.

Ohashi – showcasing her muscular 4ft10in physique – gained fame after a video of her perfect 10 floor routine at the Collegiate Challenge on January 12 went viral.

The half-Japanese athlete paired her floral onesie with a silver clutch and stilettos, and she rocked a red pout and ombré curls.

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Kumail Nanjiani and Guardians of the Galaxy action star Dave Bautista presented Katelyn with her trophy for best play onstage.

Ohashi – who has a poetry book coming out soon – then delivered a spoken word-style acceptance speech during the ABC telecast.

‘I started seeing myself in the news trying to infuse a little joy into the world and my sport. After all of the abuse and misuse by people in higher power, it’s no wonder why our voices went silent as theirs would just tower. But today, mine no longer cowers,’ the Behind the Madness blogger said.

‘I’d like to say thank you to my team who supported me throughout the season and my entire career. My parents who sacrificed everything to make my path clear.

‘To my coaches that mapped out my goals and even the ones that were the main cause of my fear. And thanks to Miss Bell who helped me steer my life on the right path. Thankful for the Internet that made this all happen.’

Katelyn also impressively scored the trophy for best viral sports moment beating out a seven-year-old sprinter and a baseball-playing nun.
