Golovkin Vs Canelo Rematch Off: Two Boxers Fail To Agree Deal To Fight This September

A REMATCH between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin has been shelved.

A deadline set by Golden Boy Promotions of 8pm passed with no indication that Triple G had accepted their offer.

Canelo’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya told ESPN: “No fight. There is no fight.

“We want the fight, Tom Loeffler wants the fight. Clearly the only person here who doesn’t want the fight is GGG.

“The fans want the fight. We bent over backwards.

“We’ve come up and there’s no budge from him so there’s no fight, 100 per cent there is no fight.”

The LA Times are also reporting that Triple G refused to accept the deal offered to him by Golden Boy Promotions.

He is said to have wanted more than the 42.5 per cent cut offered to him.

SunSport has previously reported how Golden Boy president Eric Gomez, who represents Canelo, says he will not budge on the offer.

Gomez told ESPN: “This is final. We’ve been through everything. We’ve been through the hoops, the monkey bars, the slides.

“No more playing games. He has until noon (Pacific time) to accept or walk away.

“If he walks away, good luck to him.”

Team Golovkin recently asked for a 50-50 split, pointing out GGG is the middleweight champion after their drawn first fight.

But Canelo’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya quickly stated that was a no-go and that he will be moving on to another opponent.

Golovkin’s team came back asking for a 45-55 split.

The duo would only be fighting for the WBA Super belt after GGG was stripped of the IBF strap.

Now Alvarez has lost the Ring Magazine title he picked up when he defeated Miguel Cotto back in November 2015.

The publication made the decision after Canelo tested positive for trace levels of the banned substance clenbuterol in February.

He took two further tests that both came back clean.
