Gateshead kidnapping: Huge rescue operation to find girl, 7, who was ‘bundled in van’

The youngster allegedly taken near a church in Felling, Gateshead, police have reported. At around 8.15pm, the girl was said to have been bundled into a van. The police have responded with force, with helicopters seen searching for the van and around 30 officers working on the ground to locate the child.

According to the Newcastle Chronicle, hoards of locals took to the streets to help aid the search, while also speaking of their utter shock at the developments.

One said: “We’re all mothers, that’s why we’ve come out.

“I won’t be able to sleep until I know what has happened.”

Another added: “”I just live round the corner, I’ve got young children myself.

“I called my girlfriend, she’d heard about it too. It is scary.”

Reports suggest that police are now in the process of reviewing CCTV footage.

However, Northumbria Police revealed the alleged victim’s family had not yet filed a missing person’s report.

They said: “Police are carrying out enquiries after reports of a suspicious incident in Gateshead.

“At about 8.15pm police received a report of a girl being forced into a white van on Coldwell Street, Felling.

“Officers are carrying out lines of enquiries and are appealing to anyone who may have any information about the incident to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1091 200719.”

Others took to social media to describe the drama with one claiming the girl had been “missing for nearly two hours”.

Another said: “Hope she is found soon safe and well.”
