Garlic bread is the tastiest dinner side dish that goes perfectly with pasta, but sometimes it can be a little soggy and bland if you buy it from the supermarket. Frozen garlic bread is convenient, but since the herbs are not fresh it will lose a lot of its taste and not be as crispy as it should be.
I have got into the habit of making homemade garlic butter as it takes less than five minutes to make, and you only need a handful of ingredients you likely already have in your kitchen. I have also discovered that the key to making restaurant quality garlic bread is simply a teaspoon of mayonnaise.
I know it sounds strange, but sometimes garlic butter can be chunky and difficult to spread contains a few very thick ingredients.
However, mayonnaise makes it spread onto the bread so each bite in consistently flavourful instead of only the middle having any taste.
It can also be easy to accidentally overbake garlic bread, which makes it dry out and difficult to eat, but mayo acts as a protective barrier to keep the bread crisp without becoming hard.
Mayonnaise keep the bread perfectly crispy and flavourful throughout the load while also adding a creamier taste so your garlic bread will be much tastier.
Method:
To begin, preheat your oven to 200C. Place the unsalted butter and mayonnaise in a small bowl and give it a mix.
Add your minced garlic cloves, chopped chives, then season with salt and pepper. If you wish, you can also add a little bit of shredded cheese as it will can make the garlic spread gooey and delicious.
Then, simply cut your bread in half and spread it evenly with the mayonnaise mixture. If you wish, you can make your own bread for this recipe as you only need a few ingredients but this is entirely optional.
Spread any remaining shredded cheese onto the garlic bread if you want it to be cheesy, then just place in the oven.
Bake for 10 to 15 minutes until the edges are golden brown, and the spread has completely melted. Your mouthwatering garlic bread is ready to serve and will be much tastier than the store-bought version.
