Game of Thrones season eight got off to an action-packed start wth episode one, Winterfell, on Sunday, April 14. In one scene, Arya Stark (played by Maisie Williams) asked old pal and blacksmith Gendry (Joe Dempsie) to make her a specific weapon from dragonglass. Here’s all the details on what the weapon could be and why Arya asked Gendry to make it.
What weapon did Arya ask Gendry to make in Game of Thrones?
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones’ season eight premiere saw Arya ask blacksmith Gendry to make her a specific weapon as Winterfell prepared for the battle against the White Walkers.
Gendry seemed perplexed by the proposal, asking Arya: “What do you need something like this for?”
Arya kept her answer a secret, replying: “Can you make it or not?”
HBO and Sky Atlantic viewers only caught a glimpse at the drawing of the weapon, but that was enough for theories surrounding what it was to surface.
GOT fans soon took online to suggest what it could and one specific theory prevailed.
WHEN IS GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8 ON NETFLIX?
The weapon is thought to be some sort of spear with detachable properties.
The diagram shows Arya wants it made with dragonglass, a material White Walkers are vulnerable to.
Whether the spear could be attached to Arya’s Valyrian steel dagger is left open to debate, but does seem likely.
If so, this would allow the possibility of detaching the completed spear and having two weapons capable of killing the dead.
Game of Thrones’ weapon master, Tommy Dunne, has previously hinted that Arya’s weapon could be a showstopper.
Dunne told Vanity Fair’s Still Watching podcast: There is one creation in season eight that is absolutely phenomenal.
“It’ll be a showstopper. That was great to finish. It was great to make, great to design it that it was about to be reverse-engineered and made into two different items.”

The GOT weapons master didn’t specify the weapon would belong to Arya, however.
Another major clue as to what the weapon Arya asked Gendry to make could be is in the Game of Thrones season eight trailer.
In the promo for the series, Arya can be seen wielding the spear in a split-second shot.
Who exactly Arya is using the spear on remains shrouded in mystery.
However, as flames burn around her, the spear is clearly on show.
GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8 RUNTIMES
Again, it hasn’t been confirmed that this is the specific spear Gendry made for her, but it is highly likely.
The spear theory is also backed up by Arya’s undeniable admiration for Dornish warrior-queen Nymeria.
The Dornish in GOT are renowned for battling with spears and being highly-skilled in the battle-form.
Arya was such a fan of Nymeria she named her direwolf after her.
Gendry will likely hand over the weapon to Arya when Game of Thrones continues with episode two on Sunday, April 21.
The promo for the next episode teases there’s plenty of action in store, not just for Arya, but for a number of characters.
Episode two’s first look pictures also provide clues as to what to expect next.
HOW ACCURATE IS GAME OF THRONES TO GEORGE RR MARTIN’S BOOKS?
