Game of Thrones season 8, episode 6: Does THIS confirm Jaime Lannister is ALIVE?
Game of Thrones fans were left screaming at their TVs this weekend as Jaime Lannister (played by Nikolaj Coster Waldau) went against everyone’s best intentions and returned to King’s Landing.
Although it looked like he had turned over a new leaf and had decided to stay with Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), he eventually returned to his first love, Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey).
And this decision is exactly what killed Jaime, as he chased down his sister throughout the falling city, before eventually being buried underneath the rubble alongside her.
But viewers have become convinced Jaime isn’t dead – and it hasn’t got anything to do with any finer details in the episode.
Fans have begun theorising that Jaime is actually alive because Nikolaj’s colleagues haven’t been posting tributes to him.
Die-hard fans in the UK were left a little frustrated a few weeks ago when they woke up and saw images of the newly-deceased Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) posted on social media.
This tipped them off to his death, and the cast and crew have been sending tributes to the recently-killed characters of the show – however none have arrived for poor Jaime.
Even Brienne actor Gwendoline has remained suspiciously silent – even though her character has recently become engaged in a relationship with the Lannister.
As if this wasn’t enough proof, that Jaime is still kicking around somewhere, there is more.
Entertainment Weekly has made it their mission to post interviews with the cast members whose characters have recently died – and they didn’t post an interview with Nikolaj this week.
And Entertainment Weekly themselves have even teased they’ll be “holding that one for a bit…”
If Jaime isn’t quite dead yet, what role does he have to play in the final episode of the show?
While most of what he wanted in life was to do with Cersei and his unborn child, his purpose in the show is now a little up in the air.
Unless Jaime looks for a new way of taking down Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), he may be left as an adviser.
Jaime may not be the only person looking to take down Daenerys as foretold in a prophecy laid out for the mad queen.
In the A Song of Ice and Fire books Daenerys was told she would be betrayed three times in her life – once for gold, once for blood, and another for love.
While fans on Reddit have begun theorising the first two betrayals have been and gone, they think the third betrayal – love – will come from Jon Snow (Kit Harington).
After the ruthless siege laid out in King’s Landing in episode five, Jon does not seem too happy with Daenerys.
But will he go so far as to kill her to protect the rest of Westeros?
Game of Thrones season 8 concludes Sunday on HBO in the USA and the following day on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.
