Game of Thrones season 8: Cersei Lannister’s murderer REVEALED in unexpected twist?
Game of Thrones’ villain, Cersei Lannister (played by Lena Headey), has certainly made a reputation for herself on the HBO show with her wicked ways.
For years, many have been wondering what it will take to kill her off but it seems one fan might have worked out the answer already.
Reddit user, Namez_Are_Heard suggested it’s all to do with the prophecy she received way back in season five.
While speaking to Maggy the Frog (Jodhi May) as a child, Cersei is told: “Queen you shall be… until there comes another, younger and more beautiful, to cast you down and take all that you hold dear.”
When asked if she will have children with the King, Maggy says: “Oh, aye. Six-and-ten for him, and three for you.
“Gold shall be their crowns and gold their shrouds, she said. And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.”
Many have wondered who exactly the valonqar would be. In High Valerian, it translates to “Little Brother”, signifying it would be either Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster Waldau) or Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) who will see her off.
Naturally, Cersei’s hatred of Tyrion for killing her mother during childbirth caused her to believe it would be him.
However, the Reddit author theorises: “This is probably wrong, but hey who knows?
“So everyone knows about the theory that Jaime or Tyrion will kill Cersei, as they are her younger brothers.
“Everyone also knows (or thinks anyway) that Cersei is pregnant again,” they add, referring to her baby bombshell at the end of season seven.
The forum poster continues: “What if she’s pregnant with another son, and while giving birth to him, she dies?
“She is killed by the valonqar. Nowhere in Mags’ prophecy does it say HER valonqar, just THE valonqar.”
It would certainly be a twist in the tale indeed, as she has been so fearful of her family and everyone around her, she forgot that natural tragedies could strike at any time.
What’s more, its cruelly fitting, considering what a terrible mother she has been throughout.
Meanwhile, it seems Jaime Lannister is set to die in the coming weeks.
Actor Nikolaj spoke about his character’s ending and his final scenes on set.
He told Man About Town: “My last day on Thrones… it was just the perfect scene.
“It couldn’t have ended in a better way – it was just a gorgeous day.”
Game of Thrones season eight continues Sundays on HBO and is simulcast on Sky Atlantic in the UK at 2am.
