Lewis Hamilton will wave goodbye to Mercedes at this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which is likely to be an emotional affair for the seven-time world champion.
He will be desperate to end his spell with the Silver Arrows on a positive note by performing well at the Yas Marina Circuit ahead of his highly-anticipated move to Ferrari next year.
Upon arriving in Abu Dhabi earlier this week, Hamilton admitted that it felt ‘very surreal’ to be leaving Mercedes after 12 successful years.
He added: “I’ve just tried to be as present as I can be today and just be enjoying every moment from arriving to seeing the engineers and just really like taking moments and capturing them as much as I can.
“Then to getting ready and getting in the car… I’ve really enjoyed the day. I’ve really enjoyed driving the car today, working with the guys in the garage and the engineers.
“We’ve got some work to do. The McLaren is still so fast, as is Ferrari. We’re in the mix, kind of, but we’ve got to find some time.”
