And the chance to go back to the Yorkshire club, where he spent a short spell playing, could come up after they sacked Jan Siewert last week.

He said: “Now this opportunity is complicated as I have another two years on my contract and the project is going really well and it is not an easy decision to move.

“But for me, to have experience in England as a manager is one of my biggest ambitions.

“Especially at Huddersfield where I played. I didn’t show my best as I was injured for most of the time but it is a very interesting in the Championship.

“Unlike other countries the Championship is like the top division in many other countries because there are a lot of good clubs with history.

ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN

“Everything depends on the clubs for me. I’m happy that I’m at a big club in Greece but it is a different experience to be in England and I love English football.”

Donis played under Ray Harford at Blackburn, then Steve Bruce was a big influence on him at Sheffield United and Huddersfield.

He hopes to face his old boss one day in the Premier League now Bruce is at Newcastle.

Donis said: “I have a good relationship with Steve Bruce I still have contact with him.

“I would like to face him in the future. And in football anything can happen.”

Donis also had spells in Cyprus and the Middle East and has been with Panathinaikos for a season.

He added: “I like a possession game, it is very important to control the game and have the ball and this is the first point.

“The second point is about being aggressive when we lose the ball and that also depends on the characteristics of players and the formation you use.

“When you are coach it is very important to influence the players about their mentality and for players to fight to their limits. It is important for me to have a good group and dressing room and to work as one for our targets.”
