EMMERDALE fans are heartbroken over the news Robert Sugden is leaving the soap, and with it his onscreen lover Aaron Dingle.
After the news emerged Ryan Hawley’s character is exiting the ITV programme later this year, viewers pleaded with bosses to let Danny Miller’s character go so RobRon can stay together and live “happily ever after”.
One viewer tweeted: “So… I have no doubt a lot of Aaron/Robert fans will want Aaron to leave too and live happily ever after off screen so they don’t have to watch them break up or Robert die or whatever.”
A second shared: “Noooooooo! I found out Robert Sugden is leaving! What’s going to happen with Aaron and their marriage and the rest? I hope he comes back! … gutted.”
A third wrote: “Who’s gonna pick Aaron up when he’s feeling down… Who’s gonna be the one who holds his hand when he feels alone. We always thought Robert. Aaron is going to be so alone.”
A separate social media user vented: “I’m hoping for a #robron happy ever after, maybe they could leave together and then have Aaron come back down the line if the actor who plays him doesn’t want to leave.”
Other fans took to an Emmerdale forum, on Digital Spy, to discuss alternative storylines for the couple when Robert leaves.
One wrote: “I wish they would write Aaron out with him, as Aaron feels so finished as a character and Danny Miller’s heart doesn’t seem to be in the work, but I doubt that will happen.”
A separate fan pitched: “A great shame that Robert is going, considering that the Sugden’s are a legacy family. Would definitely make sense for Aaron to go with him.
“No chance of a return for Andy if Robert is going.”
In upcoming episodes RobRon’s romance will seemingly come to an end, at least for a while, later this year when Ryan quits.
An ITV source said: “Emmerdale fans have loved every minute of RobRon’s story, and what Ryan has brought to playing Robert.
“But he has decided to take a break from the show for the foreseeable future and try other projects.”

The insider continued: “He will leave later this year, but fans can expect to see him on screen right up until the end of the year. He will be sorely missed.”
Ryan has played the popular character since 2014, becoming the fourth actor to portray Robert following Richard Smith, Christopher Smith and Karl Davies.
He has won various awards for the role, including a Tric Award last year, and the gong for Best Soap Actor at the TV Choice Awards the year before.
