Dancing On Ice 2019: ‘Honeymoon is over’ James Jordan on ‘strict’ dance partner
Dancing on Ice contestant James is partnered with professional ice skater Alexandra Schauman.
However, James has revealed his new partner is already becoming a “lot stricter” with him since first meeting.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, James revealed: “Alex is lovely. She’s very patient, but she’s also… they honeymoon period is over. I’ve noticed!
“She’s getting a lot stricter with me now. But I feel I need that. I’m a bit excitable.
“I start doing my own thing and she has to kind of reign me in a lot. I think I’m a better teacher than I am a student.
“I’m a good teacher, but I’m quite an annoying student, I’ve found.”
James explained that while he is a professional dancer himself, there are vast differences when trying to dance on the ice.
The 40-year-old also told how he was left in agony the very first time he took to the ice.
James went on to stress how daunting spending the next few months on ice really is.
He said: “It is a long time and I spent 20 minutes on the ice when I went for my initial meeting and my feet were killing me afterwards!
“Six months is a long time from start-to-finish, but what an experience! I want to know how good I can get and push the boundaries.
“I’m excited. You’re learning a skill from the best people in the world. Not many people get to do that, it’s an honour really!”
James is also more used to being a teacher rather than a student, which the dancer noted had caused a strain.
He said: “It’s going to be so different for me and it is quite daunting really because I am a bit of a control freak.
“But they’re the experts, I’ve got to listen to them otherwise I’m not going to get anywhere. I am excited about that!”
He went on to add: “To actually know what it’s like to be reliant on your pro.
“I did Strictly for eight years and I had eight female celebrities who were listening to everything I said and trusting me 100 per cent.
“I’ve now got to put my trust in someone else and let them take control, whereas I’m so used to being in control.”
James and Alexandra will perform on the very first broadcast of the series.
Dancing On Ice 2019 begins on ITV on January 6, 2019 at 6pm.
