But Vicky – Kerri Quinn – is sick of playing second fiddle and calls in the Bistro to tell Robert exactly that.

He’s horrified when she suddenly doubles up in agony.

When Michelle arrives later with son Ryan and Alya Nazir, they’re puzzled to find pans bubbling away in the kitchen, but no sign of Robert.

He’s at the hospital with Vicky who, through her pain, tells him that Tyler has been invited to the Youth Foundation Awards.

Robert calls Michelle – Kym Marsh – and tells her he’s at the wholesalers. He’s delighted when the doctor tells Vicky she suffering from gallstones and that the baby is fine.

Vicky cries tears of relief while Robert promises that from now on she’ll be his number one priority.

Later, Vicky confesses to Robert that she’s lonely and he finds himself agreeing to stay over at her place occasionally.

Meanwhile Michelle is offered a job as Events Manager of Ray’s chain of hotels and, realising it’ll give him some breathing space, Robert encourages her to go for it.

He then tells Michelle that he’s been offered a new role himself, as a mentor overseeing chefs in a Young Offenders’ Unit. He explains it means he’ll be away the odd night, but Michelle is supportive of him.

Robert finds himself caught out however when Carla – Alison King – overhears him on the phone to Vicky and he tells her it was the Unit conforming his start date.

But Carla is bemused and asks Robert how he managed to get a job with young offenders as he has a criminal record himself.

Robert is flustered as he tries to think of a reply, but just then his phone pings with a message and Carla picks it up. Is the game finally up for him?
