Today, he is one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors.

The 35-year old told WHO magazine on Thursday that his career was at a standstill before he was cast as the hammer-wielding superhero.

Chris explained that the endless stream of auditions led to plenty of soul searching, and he was asking himself, ‘Why am I doing this?’ and ‘What’s my motivation?’

He added: ‘It was hard, I had a huge amount of anxiety when I was auditioning.’

Chris’ confidence plunged to an all-time low before Marvel came knocking, with things getting ‘worse and worse the more [he] heard no’ from casting agents.

But since debuting as Thor in 2011, Chris’ career has risen to incredible heights.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the Byron Bay-based actor earned close to US$30million in 2018 alone.

Despite all of his success, however, the father-of-three has stayed grounded and remains focused on family life in Australia.

Chris told WHO that his biggest motivation is ‘looking after [his] family’.

Reflecting on his early career, he explained: ‘I love acting, but I needed to make sure I was taking care of them. I kept reminding myself of that.’
