A cheap electric car is the best second-hand vehicle on the road, beating almost 1,200 other vehicles to the top spot. WhatCar? has selected the Skoda Enyaq as the first pure electric model to win Britain’s Best Used Car award.
The electric family SUV was picked from a field of 1,183 contenders, with judges praising the model’s unbeatable value and practicality. WhatCar? claims that Enyaq’s win is proof that there has never been a better time to buy a used electric model, with prices now cheaper than ever. According to the experts, interested buyers can pick up an Enyaq for just £13,000.
This would be around £26,000 less than you would spend on a brand new model of the car, first released back in 2020. However, motorists can now pick up Enyaq models for just £215 per month if they secure the vehicle on a personal contract purchase.
What Car? Used cars editor Mark Pearson said: “When it comes to bang for your buck, few cars of any type can get close to the Skoda Enyaq.
“Its £13,000 starting price is significantly less than you’d pay for any similar-sized rival, including the Tesla Model Y (2022-present), which costs upwards of £18,000.
“The Enyaq has acres of space inside, and the larger of the two EV battery options, delivers an official range of 333 miles, which outdoes the Model Y Long Range.”
WhatCar? has previously said the Enyaq “handles tidily” with precise steering, allowing motorists to control the car with confidence. They also praise the model for its regenerative braking system and good quality interior.
Boot space is plentiful with 585 litres of space with the rear seats in place, expanding to 1,710 litres if the seats are folded down. Motorists will also benefit from lots of head and leg room in the front and rear of the vehicle.
The Enyaq is also considered to have good reliability, meaning road users shouldn’t have any concerns while behind the wheel.
WhatCar? said: “The Enyaq finished towards the top of the electric SUV section of our 2024 What Car? Reliability Survey. Skoda came 13th out of 31 brands in the overall rankings, ahead of Ford, VW and Nissan but behind Hyundai and Kia.”
