Many Brits will be jetting off to Spain this summer but some of the more popular areas can get overly busy with large crowds. Now a social media influencer, who has claimed to have visited every country across Europe, has advised tourists to avoid the chaos in Barcelona and visit a small coastal town instead.
The town, known for its traditional architecture and stunning beaches, has been described as the continent’s “best kept secret” and the “most underrated place in Spain”. Scottvisits, who has over 170,000 followers on Instagram, said: “After visiting every country in Europe I found the best kept secret. Welcome to the most underrated place in Spain. Skip Marbella and Barcelona and come here instead. The perfect European holiday spot. A real must visit – Nerja.”
Nerja, located in Andalucia, boasts around 10 miles of golden beaches. One of the most popular is Burriana Beach, which stands out for its crystal clear waters and variety of facilities.
The charming town centre offers visitors a traditional Spanish feel with narrow streets and whitewashed buildings. There are a host of shops, bars and restaurants for tourists to enjoy.
They offer an array of local and international cuisines. There are also a range of boutique hotels for visitors to stay at.
For those after a more active holiday, the surrounding areas of Nerja are perfect for hiking and exploring. The natural landscapes, such as the Sierras de Almijara mountains, are enjoyed by visitors throughout the year.
One of the main things that stands Nerja apart from other holiday destinations in Spain is how quiet it is. The town is known for being relaxed and laid-back, offering the perfect place for a peaceful getaway.
Nerja has a number of positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Most visitors agree that the stunning beaches stand out and appreciate the area for being less busy than other resorts.
Laura2688, from Glasgow, said: “Nerja is a beautiful town surrounded by some of the most magnificent beaches you could find in the Costa del Sol.
“It is quiet and not in the least touristy like some of these resorts in Tenerife and Ibiza. It is an ideal and friendly holiday destination for families and couples.”
Paradise6316, from Surrey, added: “Nerja is magic, pure magic! It has beautiful scenery, fab beaches, nightlife, and lovely hotels. It is unspoilt and so Spanish. Wonderful! If you go there, dont you dare spoil it for others!”
