A father and son died in a beach tragedy in Australia after the sea conditions “changed in an instant”, an inquest has heard. Robin Reed, 46, and his son Owen, 17, from Caerphilly county in south Wales, were on a day trip in Queensland on April 13.
Owen was swimming at a beach at Round Head Hill in waist deep water with other children when the conditions suddenly changed and he was swept out to sea. His father quickly tried to rescue his son with a man named Michael Evans, but they also both got into difficulty. Emergency services rushed to the beach and recovered the bodies of Robin and Owen, who died by drowning.
