A 16-year-old boy who was found dead on railway tracks with a friend has been named and pictured. Joshua Myers and a second boy, also aged 16, were found not far from Poynton railway station near Stockport, Greater Manchester, on Thursday (July 3).
British Transport Police said officers were called at around 10.10pm to reports of a casualty on the tracks near the station. The force said the two boys were pronounced dead at the scene, adding the incident was “not being treated as suspicious”.
In a statement, British Transport Police said: “Very sadly and despite the best efforts of paramedics two people were both pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
Cheshire Police had issued an appeal to help trace Joshua after he went missing and was believed to have made his way to Devon and Cornwall, according to the Mirror.
Joshua, from Handforth, Cheshire, was found, but went missing again in June before he was found on the railway line on Thursday.
A passenger who got off a train at Poyton station on Friday told Manchester Evening News: “It’s just devastating. I have teenage children myself, including a 16-year-old boy. It brings it so close to home.”
