Big Brother Plans To Continue For Three Extra Years After The Famous House’s Lease Was Extended

THERE were rumours Big Brother was facing the axe after a dip in ratings . . . but it’s not heading off to the scheduling graveyard yet.

Production firm Endemol Shine Group has renewed the lease of the famous house at Elstree Studios for another THREE years.

C5 Emma Willis and Ryan Clark-Neal may be concerned as Channel 5’s contract to air the show runs out this year

This month Endemol filed a planning application to the local council saying it wanted to retain the buildings and film shows there for the next three years.

Despite this apparent comitment to the show, which launched 18 years ago, Channel 5’s contract to air it, alongside Celebrity Big Brother, runs out at the end of 2018.

That will be a concern for presenter Emma Willis and Big Brother’s Bit On The Side host Rylan Clark-Neal.

C5s Director of Programming, Ben Frow, cast doubt on its future by admitting he wouldn’t be interested in continuing to air the reality show “in its current form”.

He added that he would not authorise spending a huge sum to keep it. Endemol has vowed to refresh the format of the series amid strong competition from shows such as ITV2’s Love Island.

Endemol’s chief creative officer Peter Salmon, the former BBC boss, said: “Big Brother has got to last. You have to roll your sleeves up and renew it for a different generation.

“It is having a tougher competitive time in the UK but it’s huge around the world. Love Island has been sensational. If Big Brother is not on top form, we have to keep changing it.”

The 19th series starts next month — and a lot rides on it.

THIS cheeky stare could see Mark Wright get in strife with his wife, Our Girl star Michelle Keegan.

He appeared mesmerised by rapper Iggy Azalea, as she taught him how to twerk on his US TV show, Extra. It remains to be seen if Michelle will believe that lingering look was all in the name of his work.

Fern grins ‘n’ bears it

FERN Britton is dreaming of quitting London to move to Cornwall.

Mum-of-four Fern said: “My daughter says she’s going to have a granny annexe. I said I’ll be fine in a care home as long as I have a room with a carpet, books and doors that open into the fresh air.”

She might miss her kids though as when she is working away, she sleeps with their teddies.

Fern, who tours from next month in musical Calendar Girls, told Prima mag: “I like going to bed with a teddy. My teddy is so old, he can’t make it, so my boys have lent me each of their bears for the tour so I won’t get too homesick.”

MADDY HILL, once of EastEnders, has trained for her role as a Casualty paramedic.

Ouch! Let’s hope she never has to do it in real life.

Si sings nurses’ praises

FOR 14 years The X Factor has helped to turn nobodies into pop sensations.

But Simon Cowell’s ITV talent show is now giving back to those who truly deserve it – with an NHS Appreciation Day and Armed Forces Appreciation Night.

Splash News Audiences for Simon’s latest X Factor project will be staff from the NHS and members of the armed forces

The audiences for both days at London’s SSE Wembley Arena will be made up of members of the organisations involved and their families. A source said: “ITV has marked the 70th anniversary of the NHS with several shows and X Factor producers are jumping on the bandwagon.

“They also decided the Armed Forces deserve their own special evening.”

It’s great that The X Factor is finally recognising other people outside the music industry. But surely there are other ways it could help the struggling NHS.

How about Simon doesn’t invite Sharon Osbourne back to the live shows, and instead donates her massive salary to charity.

This is why Robbie Williams would make a brilliant judge on The X Factor

A degree in reality TV

UNIVERSITY life has a reputation for being one long jolly and a new MTV show will do its utmost to keep that image alive.

The channel has created Re-Freshers Week, which will see eight 30-somethings become freshers again.

They’ll swap their day jobs for boozy nights out and complete tasks and games to earn their keep during the romp, aimed at Geordie Shore fans.

A source said: “There’s a lot of excitement around the show and producers have targeted contestants who are champing at the bit to have a good time and re-live their youth.”

Filming starts as the new academic year kicks off.

I’m going to get a headache just watching.
