As Galaxy S9 deals continue Samsung releases 'critical' update for this popular phone

The Samsung Galaxy S9 is offering some serious value for money right now.

This older flagship has seen its price plummet in recent months with deals now meaning this phone can be picked up for under £500.

Retailers including John Lewis, Argos and Debenhams are all selling the S9 for around £499 which is a huge saving off the original £739 price.

As a quick reminder, the Galaxy S9 includes a 5.8-inch Quad HD screen, single rear camera and fast Octa-Core processor.

There’s also a 3,000mAh battery which can be charged wirelessly and the phone is fully water resistant.

Although the S9 has now been superseded by the new S10 this is still a solid smartphone that offers plenty of appeal – especially with that new lower price.

If you already own one then there’s also some important news as it seems Samsung has begun pushing out its May security update to these popular phones.

According to SamMobile, this critical upgrade has been spotted in Germany with other countries expected to follow soon.

This download has already been pushed out to some Note 8 and A series phones and it would appear the S9 is next on the list.

The May security patch was revealed by the Korean technology firm last week with this vital download including fixes to numerous vulnerabilities.

Most of the issues relate to general issues with Google’s Android operating system with some so severe they’ve been deemed critical.

However, there are also 21 other changes that are unique to Samsung’s software including one which mends a problem which allows keyboard learned words and clipboard contents to be leaked on the lock screen via Bixby.

Samsung is constantly pushing out these updates to make sure its devices stay safe from the latest threats.

In a post on its security website, the tech firm said: “At Samsung, we take security and privacy issues very seriously and we are doing our best to respond as quickly as possible.

“Securing your device and maintaining the trust you place in us is our top priority.

“Samsung releases monthly and quarterly security updates on selected Samsung devices.

“Monthly and quarterly security updates will include patches for Android OS related security issues released by Google, as well as, patches for Samsung-specific security issues.”

It’s currently unclear exactly when everyone will get access to this patch but expect a full rollout over the coming weeks.

If you own a Galaxy device then head to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
