Gotze, 26, remains a hero in Germany after netting the winner in the 2014 World Cup final.

But he has failed to hit the lofty heights since and returned to his boyhood club after failing to make an impact at Bayern Munich.

He failed to impress Joachim Low enough to earn a spot in Germany’s current World Cup campaign.

Gotze spent time away from football as he battled a rare muscle disorder which can cause muscle fatigue and weight gain.
