A violent fight between two British women has added fuel to the fire amid overtourism protests in Tenerife. The “barbaric” video shared on a neighbourhood Facebook page showed two women aggressively hitting each other on the ground before being separated by onlookers.
According to the Facebook page ‘Tenerife quejas vecinales’ (Tenerife neighbour complaints), the fight broke out in the busy tourist area of Playa de las Americas at the Veronicas strip. Filmed in darkness with both women wearing night out clothes, a brunette woman appears to tackle a blonde woman to the floor, making her land face down on the pavement.
The brunette then got on top of her and violently started hitting and slapping her in the face, as the blonde tried to swipe back and get on top. The pair were then separated by three men and a woman who were nearby.
The caption read: “The Veronicas. Shameful and regrettable argument with spectators. Tourists at Playa de Las Americas, Tenerife south leisure area.”
Followers commented in shock and dismay over the fight, with one saying “quality tourism…”, and another adding “What a barbarity, my God!!!”
Speaking about the popular leisure area, another said: “Now they don’t go out to have fun, if not to fight. The youth is getting worse and worse.”
One ashamed Brit responded to the unhappy residents saying: “Huge apologies from the majority of nice normal UK citizens who value the Canaries, its people, culture and food.”
They asked not to be associated with these “sad people and their horrible behaviour” and agreed that the government should listen to concerns about mass tourism.
