At the weekly tournament, Walker stunned the competition by nailing an incredible 145 checkout. He is also a regular at exhibitions, where some of the biggest names in darts are in action.
In December, he defeated world No. 1 Humphries and recorded an average of 102 in the process. Now, Walker has revealed what the new Premier League champion told him after their match.
“He said to me, keep practising, keep doing what I am doing,” Walker told SPORTbible. “And he also said that I was the best 12-year-old he had ever seen.”
Many have dubbed him the ‘new Littler’ after watching the reigning world champion blaze a trail in darts and open the sport to a new generation of fans and players.
And Walker has made no secret that he wants to follow in Littler’s footsteps. “Like most people who enjoy watching darts I would love to play Luke one day,” he added.
“I very much believe if it hadn’t been for Luke I wouldn’t have been given all the opportunities I have been at 12. I am very thankful to him for that. A dart match needs two players so you would have to ask Luke if he wanted to play me.
“There’s always lots of comparisons made to Luke Littler because I am young. If I want to be world number one I must be better than everyone. I am only 12 so I can’t even think about beating Luke yet. I can only play the opponent I have in front of me. I’m lucky that I have four more years of practice.”
Walker has already amassed thousands of followers on Instagram after his 2-1 victory over Humphries in Dorset, who was bowled over by his opponent’s performance.
“That was the first time I’ve ever met him but I’m pretty sure that’s the best 12-year-old [player] I’ve ever seen in my life,” said Humphries at the time.
“For a 12-year-old to be doing that, it just shows this new generation coming through is going to be [special].
“When he’s 18, he could possibly be one of the best players in the world, but like I said, it’s important that I try and win as much as I can over the next five years before everyone overtakes me.”
