The budget supermarket chain is aiming to have 1,500 UK stores across the UK as more people turn towards Aldi to get their food shop. Currently operating 1,050 UK stores, there will be 10 new stores across the country in the next 14 weeks as Aldi invests £650million in expanding its portfolio.
Jonathan Neale, the managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “At Aldi, our goal is to ensure everyone has access to high-quality food at unbeatable prices. And we’re committed to achieving that with our ambitious store opening plans.” In 2025, the goal is to open 40 new stores, which will provide new job openings in local areas.
At present, Aldi store assistants get at least £12.75 per hour; those within the M25 get £14.05.
From September of this year, hourly rates are set to increase to £12.85 nationally, and to £14.16 per hour for those working at the stores within the M25.
Meanwhile, a further 30 Aldi stores will be undergoing a refresh “to enhance customer experience”.
Mr Neale said the enhancements mean Aldi can “consistently offer the best value for money to even more shoppers across the UK”.
