King Charles and Queen Camilla have paid a visit to Canada House in London ahead of their two-day state visit next week. The couple were all smiles as they were greeted by the High Commissioner for Canada, Ralph Goodale, and the Deputy High Commissioner, Robert Fry.
As they waved at the crowd of well-wishers, the couple looked happy and relaxed. For the special engagement, the Queen sported a fitted floral mid-length dress while the King looked typically stylish in a perfectly-tailored cream suit.
The King, 76, and Queen, 77, will be visiting Canada for a royal tour between May 26 and 27.
The King and Queen’s trip today had an extra special meaning as Canada House, which is the High Commission of Canada in the UK, opened 100 years ago in 1925 to bring Canada’s representation under one roof.
In the century which has followed, it has become a symbol of Canada in London and a showcase for Canadian art, culture and heritage.
The High Commissioner will address the reception, before presenting His Majesty with the key to Canada House, echoing the set cast in Canadian bronze, silver and nickel offered to King George V upon the official opening in 1925. The new centenary key was designed by Indigenous Ts’myen Canadian artist Morgan Asoyuf.
The visit today comes ahead of Their Majesties trip to the country next week. Their trip will include attending the State Opening of Parliament in Ottawa.
According to The Sun, this will be the first time a British monarch has attended the State Opening of the Canadian Parliament since Queen Elizabeth in 1977. The royal couple will be visiting Canada’s Capital Region.
This will be the 20th time the King has visited Canada, as well as his first time as monarch.
