IGN asked Zelnick if he was confident that Rockstar will hit the May 2026 release date.
The Take Two boss was said to sound confident when he replied: “I think historically when we set a specific date, generally speaking, we’ve been very good about reaching it.”
As Zelnick points out, Rockstar typically keeps to its release schedule when a specific date is announced. GTA 6 was previously pencilled in for an autumn 2025 launch, but now has an exact date.
Fans are desparate to start playing GTA 6, especially after the release of the second trailer, which you can see below.
The recently released trailer showcases the two main characters of Jason and Lucia. The duo are said to be in the middle of a criminal conspiracy in the state of Leonida.
“Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them,” reads a Rockstar Games blog post.
“But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”
Other characters include Jason’s friend Cal Hampton, Vice City “legend” Boobie Ike, wannabe music mogul Dre’Quan Priest, the musical pair of Real Dimez, bank robber Raul Bautista, and drug runner Brian Heder.
Real Dimez consist of Bae-Luxe and Roxy, who are signed to the record label owned by Dre’Quan Priest.
Locations include Vice City itself, as well as Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park.
Based on a selection of new screenshots, the game will seemingly let players hunt, fly, kayak, play pool and race dirt bikes.
