The BBC director general is set to deliver a crunch speech on the broadcaster’s future in a speech later today. Tim Davie is expected to say how the BBC can help tackle a “crisis of trust” in UK society and set out plans for the BBC to become a leader in AI-powered educational support as he lays out his vision to rebuild the public’s faith in the corporation and embrace the digital age.

During the speech in Salford he will unveil a national support package for people working in the creative industries and discuss the corporation’s plan to transition from broadcast to an internet-based service. He is also expected to speak about the corporation switching from traditional broadcast methods to online.

“The BBC is ready to play its full part – not to defend the past, but to help shape the future,” he is expected to say, according to advance extracts of the speech.
