How to remove grease from oven glass doors fast and naturally

Cleaning the oven, particularly its glass door, is a task that many households dread. The longer this chore is delayed, the more challenging it becomes to remove the stubborn stains. However, Erin, a natural cleaning guru and the mind behind the Lemons Lavender and Laundry blog, assured us that it’s not as intimidating as it seems. She recently shared a simple cleaning method that claims to combat even the most persistent, baked-on messes without resorting to harsh chemicals.

Erin admitted, “I have to confess, I never really paid attention to the inside of my oven door. I simply turned a blind eye to the fact that baked-on food had been piling up for years. I hadn’t cleaned it in the five years we’ve lived in our house, and truthfully, I suspect the previous owners didn’t clean it frequently either. This means I could be grappling with 14 years’ worth of greasy, grimy, baked-on food grease.

“While there are numerous tips and tricks on how to clean a glass oven door, I favour this method because it utilises one simple, natural ingredient: baking soda.”

So, what makes baking soda so potent? Its high pH level makes it an adversary to acidic grease and burnt food, offering a gentle yet abrasive solution for dirty oven doors.

Erin favours the baking soda method for its efficiency and lack of harsh chemicals, saying: “While using baking soda takes a little more time and effort than using an oven cleaner, it certainly does the job, and without harmful chemicals.”

A bit of baking soda, alongside a reliable sponge and a gentle scour pad, is your ticket to keeping your oven pristine and scratch-free.

Kickstart your cleaning by generously sprinkling baking soda on the glass. Wet a scour pad and work it into the powder to form a thick paste.

She detailed the process: “The goal is to cover the entire glass oven door with the baking soda paste. If you find you do not have enough paste, simply add more baking soda and water. If the paste is thick and clumpy, add more water; if it’s thin and runny, add more baking soda.”

Allow this mixture a good half an hour to bond with the glass door, or let it sit overnight for ovens that need extra attention, promising exceptional results.

After, dampen the scourer again and begin scrubbing gently in sections, as the grime starts to dissolve with ease.

Follow up with a wet sponge to remove any remaining bits of the baking soda concoction.

Having tested this trick, Erin was ecstatic about her oven glass looking “like a mirror” and took to sharing snapshots of her sparkling oven online. She said: “It’s like a mirror! I’d say that was one successful cleaning tip!”
