Microsoft gives all Windows 10 users two new reasons to switch to Windows 11 now

Most Windows 10 users are now well aware of the impending end-of-life deadline that’s rapidly approaching. From October 2025, this ageing operating system will lose all free support, and that means older PCS – that can’t switch to Windows 11 – will be at a much higher risk of cyber attacks and worrying bugs.

Microsoft has been urging Windows 10 users to make the jump for months and now the US technology giant is launching two new reasons that might help twist the arms of those stuck in the past. That’s thanks to a duo of Windows 11-powered devices going on sale today.

The latest Surface Pro and Surface Laptop have just been unveiled and come packed with updates including speedy Snapdragon processors, smart AI and very long battery life that will easily power users through the longest of long-haul flights.

“With Windows 10 reaching the end of support on Oct. 14, 2025, the Surface Pro, 12-inch, and Surface Laptop, 13-inch are great options to ensure you have a modern, secure, and efficient computing experience,” Microsoft explained.

To make things seem even more enticing, they both arrive at pretty reasonable prices with things starting from just £799. The new Surface Pro gets a 12-inch screen and the same 2-in-1 form factor that transforms it from a tablet into a laptop.

There’s also a stylus for scribbling on the screen, and it gets its power from the latest Snapdragon X Plus processor.

Microsoft says it comes with a new keyboard (at extra cost) that attaches easily and lies flat for a grounded and quiet typing experience. It also features a smooth-matte palm rest for comfort and durability, a full-size backlit keyset and customisable precision touchpad with adaptive touch mode.

Those wanting a more standard portable PC experience will be pleased to see the Surface Laptop has also had a refresh which makes it more portable thanks to a thinner and lighter design.

It features a 13-inch screen, 23-hour battery life, and a Snapdragon X Plus processor, which Microsoft boasts makes it faster than last year’s MacBook Air M3.

Both devices also offer access to Copilot+ PC experiences such as Recall, Improved Windows Search and Click to Do which lets can identify text and images on the screen.

Microsoft has confirmed that the new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop are available right now from its store, so you can upgrade immediately.

“Last May, we introduced a new category of devices — Copilot+ PCs, the fastest, most intelligent Windows PCs ever, with our flagship Surface Laptop and Surface Pro representing the ultimate Copilot+ PCs from Microsoft,” Microsoft said.

“Copilot+ PCs are lightning fast, responsive devices with long battery life, built to be secure by design and by default, and unlock exclusive AI experiences, running locally thanks to the Neural Processing Unit in their advanced processors. Today, we are proud to introduce two new Surface Copilot+ PCs. You now have more options to choose the right Surface Copilot+ PC to fit your needs.”
