Carpets can add warmth to a room and make a home feel more inviting, but they can be difficult to maintain as they tend to become matted over time. Dust, food crumbs, and dead skin cells can get trapped in the fibres, and for pet owners, animal hair can make carpets even harder to keep clean.
Sometimes, vacuum cleaners are not powerful enough to remove debris deeply embedded in the carpet, but there is a simple way to dislodge trapped residue without clogging the vacuum. The experts at Kings Meadcarpets have shared that you can quickly remove hair and anything else in your carpet using a rubber glove.
They said: “Rubber gloves can lift pet hair out of your carpet with ease. Simply wet the gloves first and rub your hand over the carpet or rug you want to remove hair from in short strokes.”
It may sound strange, but rubber creates more static electricity, and any residue in the carpet will cling to the glove and become much easier to remove.
A wet rubber glove will also create even more friction, and the residue will clump more together instead of leaving small strands behind.
Simply put on a rubber glove and dampen it. Make sure the glove is not dripping, then rub your hand over the carpet in a sweeping motion. Your carpet should be clean in no time.

The expert: “A rubber squeegee has proved to be successful in removing pet hair. Run the squeegee over the carpet and it will lift the fur right up – you don’t even need to wet it.”
However, there are plenty of other things scattered around your home that can help remove any trapped grime on your carpet, such as fabric softener.
Fabric softener works the opposite way as it neutralises any static electricity that is sticking to carpet fibres and will also soften any dirt to loosen it.
The expert said: “Combine part water and part fabric softener in a spray bottle and spray your carpet where pet hair has built up.
“Make sure to spray lightly and avoid soaking your carpet, then once it’s dried, brush or vacuum the fur.”
Both the fabric softener and the rubber glove method are quick ways to remove anything trapped in your carpet, so you can have a beautifully clean floor without endlessly vacuuming the same spot.
