Princess Anne, known for her ‘no-nonsense’ attitude once had a witty remark when a student innocently quizzed her about the Royal Family’s living arrangements.

In 1990, the Princess Royal visited Moscow, Russia, for a two-week visit to the Soviet Union when she was asked a question by a student.

The student quizzed Princess Anne: “How does it feel having Buckingham Palace as your private property?”

The Princess gave a little smile before responding in a curt seven-words: “Well, I don’t know because it isn’t.”

After laughter followed from the rest of the students, she explained: “No, it’s a state-owned establishment. I wasn’t actually born there, I have my office there and the Queen [Queen Elizabeth II] lives there but it’s not really private property.”

Royal fans have flocked to social media to watch the interaction, which is circulating on social media platform, TikTok.

One fan wrote: “Princess Margaret is just great. Intelligent, strong and extremely witty.”

Another joked the Princess Royal almost mentioned “mum” instead of “the Queen” when referring to who lives at Buckingham Palace.

A user wrote: “Love the princess royal! she’s humble and a class act.”

A Princess Anne fan added: “She’s wonderful! Such a true treasure!!”

Princess Anne’s brutal responses famously came into play during a failed but terrifying kidnapping attempt on March 20, 1974 in the UK.

A man named Ian Ball shot at Anne’s Rolls-Royce as she and her then husband, Captain Mark Phillips, were returning to Buckingham Palace from a reception as their path was blocked by another car.

The man who had hoped for a ransom of millions of pounds commanded Anne to get out of the car during the interaction.

“Not bloody likely” was her response, in an extraordinarily calm manner.

Mr Beaton, journalist Brian McConnell, Anne’s chauffeur Alexander Callender, and police constable Michael Hills were all shot that night, but thankfully all survived.
