An American fast food chain “better than McDonald’s and Burger King” has confirmed its first UK location, with more set to follow. The city-centre restaurant will open in Cardiff on April 3, after first announcing in May 2024 it would launch in the UK under Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG).
Known for its chargrilled Angus beef burgers, Carl’s Jr. will debut at the city’s biggest shopping centre, St David’s Dewi Sant, before an expected expansion to cities like London, Birmingham and Manchester. Some customers claim it is even better than some fast food chains already in the UK, with a Reddit thread dedicated to saying ‘Carl’s Jr. is better than McDonald’s and Burger King’ on the ‘unpopular opinion’ board.
One Reddit user explained: “Carl’s Jr burgers are levels above Mcdonalds and BK. Their burgers actually look like the photos McDonalds put up on their menus and the lettuce / tomatoes in the burgers are actually crunchy and not a soggy mess like they are in Mcdonalds and BK.”
The creator of the thread said: “I just think Carl’s Jr has the tastiest burgers ever and they are bigger too. I’ve always loved the Western bacon cheeseburger, even though it’s a little more expensive.”
The menu will feature four classic burgers, three premium Angus beef burgers, several chicken burgers and chicken tenders. To settle the sweet tooth, there will also be ice cream milkshakes, bottomless soft drinks, brownies and ice cream sundaes.
The new city centre restaurant is set to create 30 jobs, and have enough space to seat 70 people.
David Moffat, Country Manager for Carl’s Jr. UK, said: “Carl’s Jr. has a reputation for delivering high-quality, crave-worthy food that stands out in the burger market.
“We are thrilled to bring Carl’s Jr. to Cardiff, marking our first location in the UK. The team at BRG has been working hard to bring the Carl’s Jr. experience to the UK, and we can’t wait to welcome our first guests soon.”
McDonalds and Burger King have been approached for comment.
