Nicholas Prosper court case

A gore obsessed teen who planned to launch “the biggest massacre in the 21st century” was snared after police stopped him marching towards his former primary school dressed as Uma Thurman’s character in the ultra-violent film Kill Bill. Nicholas Prosper, 19, plotted to launch a US-style gun rampage killing 30 children and two teachers after blasting his mother and two siblings to death with an illegally bought shotgun.

Prosper spent a year planning to become “the most famous mass murderer in history” famous” as his mind became twisted gorging on extreme death videos online and obsessing over computer game The Walking Dead. He was deemed to be so depraved he was ejected from a “gore website” where users gathered to view and comment on vile footage of people being killed. Fellow users complained because Prosper kept requesting child abuse material. He launched his deadly rampage from his cramped bedroom to murder his mum Juliana Falcon, 48, and siblings Kyle Prosper, 16, and Giselle Prosper, 13, by shooting them all in the head with a shotgun.

The teen then set off towards St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Luton armed with the gun, a kitchen knife and a bag of ammunition, intending to continue his killing spree as the school day started at 9am.

If he had succeeded the massacre would have eclipsed Britain’s deadliest mass shooting when Thomas Hamilton launched his 1996 attack on Dunblane Primary School in Scotland, leaving 15 pupils and one teacher dead.

But in a dramatic twist of good fortune Prosper was stopped by passing police officers who spotted him wearing a yellow and black tracksuit reminiscent of Thurman’s Kill Bill outfit, before realising his hands were covered in blood.

Officers attended his home and found his murdered family before being left shell-shocked as they discovered the monster had spent months preparing to unleash carnage by researching atrocities including the Manchester Arena terror attack and the Virginia Tech massacre and Sandy Hook school shootings in the US. He also posing for a ‘selfie’ holding a wooden plank as if it was a gun before faking a shotgun licence to buy his murder weapon online.

His killing spree at the family home in Luton, Beds, erupted at 5am on September 13 last year as he gunned down his mother Juliana with a single shot to her head after she discovered him wielding the gun in his bedroom. He then targeted younger brother Kyle, stabbing him over 100 times piercing his lungs, arms and legs, before shooting the 16-year-old in the head.

The killer then pursued sister Giselle, shooting her in the eye while she cowered under the dining room table in the living room.

In a video filmed before the killings, Prosper had warned “my sister’s face will be mutilated further than is necessary”.

The teenager yesterday showed no emotion in the dock as day one of a two day sentencing hearing at Luton Crown Court heard how he craved notoriety and wanted to “kill all”.

Timothy Cray KC, prosecuting, said Prosper “desired to be famous or infamous as a mass killer” and intended carrying out the biggest school shooting that the world had ever seen.

He said: “What drove him on most was the desire to be famous or infamous as a mass killer. This was killing for the sake of killing.

Mr Cray told how police recovered a note containing a diagram of the early years’ classroom at St Joseph’s and an arrow pointing to a second classroom .

“Beside the first classroom he had written, ‘Kill all’.

In an echo of fellow teen Axel Rudakubana’s Southport attack just months earlier, the loner was consumed by a lust for extreme violence and harming children and was intent on continuing his rampage.

Prosper was sentenced on Tuesday after last month pleading guilty three counts of murder, as well as to purchasing a shotgun without a certificate, possession of a shotgun with intent to endanger life and possession of a kitchen knife in a public place.

David Bentley KC, mitigating, admitted Prosper had committed “a really incomprehensible offence” but said the killer had been living “in a fantasy world”, adding: “Unfortunately, that fantasy world broke out into the real world.”

The barrister said his autism spectrum disorder meant Prosper had highly fixed interests, which fuelled his obsession with school shootings, adding: “This is a young man who has gone down, in effect, an internet wormhole”.

Mr Bentley admitted the defendant was going to spend “a substantial period of time in prison” and may never be released if his psychiatric state did not improve, but urged the judge not to “pull the rug” at this stage in his life.

After the guilty pleas last month headteacher at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Maureen Murphy staff had been “very shocked” to learn of the plot, but said there was no ongoing threat to the school.

Detective Chief Inspector Sam Khanna, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “In all my years working on murder investigations, I have never known a case quite like this.

“Not only were three innocent lives taken in such brutal circumstances, but we then learnt of Prosper’s plans to carry out a shooting at a school, something which left our whole investigation team in shock and disbelief.

“We cannot ever begin to comprehend why someone would plan to kill innocent children and are so grateful to those arresting officers who helped prevent this from taking place.”

Prosper will be sentenced at Luton Crown Court on Wednesday.
