Israeli security are reported to have convened an emergency meeting after an unconfirmed report suggested that “a recent unusal event may indicate a Hamas attempt to prepare for a ground invasion into Israel”.
It comes as Israeli i24 News’ Ariel Oseran shared information about a sudden meeting on X Monday. No details have emerged at press time about the contents of the gathering, reports the Express US.
The report comes as tensions build in the region amid tenuous Gaza ceasefire negotiations as Palestine looks to rebuild after 15 months of bombardment. The report has not been confirmed by any third parties.
Ariel Oseran wrote on X: “Urgent security consultations took place at the top security and political levels in Israel due to ‘a recent unusual event that may indicate a Hamas attempt to prepare for a ground invasion into Israel.’ The censorship approved to publicize the information.”
The ceasefire put a halt to over 15 months of fighting, which led to the deaths of around 48,000 Palestinians in Gaza, according to Gaza health officials. Israel carried out airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, southern Lebanon and southern Syria on Monday, killing at least 10 people, including a child, according to local authorities.
The Israeli military said it was targeting militants plotting attacks. The airstrikes were the latest in what have been frequent and often deadly attacks by Israeli forces during the fragile ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon.
It has also cut electricity and aid to Gaza in an attempt to force Hamas’ hand in negotiations. Tension is high in multiple parts of the region, with Yemen’s Houthis threatening to attack Israel ships in its waters after issuing a four-day deadline to resume aid to Gaza.
