Packets of crisps are being recalled over concerns that they contain ingredients not listed on the label and pose a “possible health risk” to people with allergies or intolerances.

Unisnacks Europe Ltd are recalling Orion Turtle Chips Sweetcorn Flavour due to undeclared milk, soy and wheat (gluten).

A notice issued by the Food Standards Agency warned they could trigger reactions in “anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, and/or an allergy to soya and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, or with coeliac disease”.

Around 2-3% of babies suffer allergies to cow’s milk, although most outgrow it during childhood.

Such allergies occur when the body’s immune system mistakenly identifies the milk as a threat. In serious cases, this can trigger anaphylaxis.

Symptoms include hives, swelling, vomiting, and breathing difficulties, which typically occur within a few minutes of consuming milk.

Soya allergies are more rare, affecting an estimated one in 300 people, and around one in 100 have coeliac disease.

The affected product comes in an 80g packet with a best before date of either April 10, 2025 or April 24, 2025.

Customers with allergies or intolerances are advices not to eat the crisps and to return them to the store where they were purchased.

The FSA said relevant allergy support organisations had also been notified and will alert their members.

The latest recall comes after Sour Cream and Onion Flavour Chips made by Boundless were recalled earlier this month.

The affected products also contained milk not mentioned on the ingredients list.
