Donald Trump might have hit the bunker when it comes to the reaction to his recent comments about Ukraine, but it seems the president has scored a hole-in-one as far as a planning decision goes for his Scottish golf course.

The leader of the free world is well known for his love of golf, which he enjoys almost as much as an outspoken remark, and it seems there is some good news for the 78-year-old’s Aberdeenshire holding.

Trump International, Scotland, already boasts a an award-winning links golf course and a sumptuous five-star country hotel, and now it’s set to have another facility added.

The Sun reports approval has been granted for a new kiosk to provide golfers with food and drink and toilet facilities at the halfway point around the course. The building will be designed in the style of Victorian train stations found in the area.

In a submission to the council, Trump’s representatives said: “The purpose of this facility is to provide users of the course toilet facilities and the opportunity to purchase pre-prepared food and drinks during their time out on the course.

“This forms a supporting part of the infrastructure to the second Championship Links Course currently under construction on the Menie Estate and will be critical to the experience of users on this second course.

“The Half Way house has a long history with Scottish Golf, with a diverse range of scale and style ranging from small temporary structures to larger capacity venues.”

In a written ruling, planning officials said: “The design and scale would not cause any detrimental impact to the character of the area or have an unacceptable impact on the natural environment.

“Its positioning has been chosen as a practical stop-off for users of the course and would sit adjacent to an existing pathway that will service the golf course.”

Speaking about his Scottish roots last year, Mr Trump praised the country on the Andrew Schulz’s Flagrant with Akaash Singh podcast.

He said: “The Scottish people…they’re very great people, they’re tough people. They’re good fighters. [My mother ] was funny, she had a great sense of humour.

“My father loved my mother. My father was German. He was serious…he was a tough guy but he had a good heart.

“We would walk down the street and if someone had a can my father would always put 100 dollars in the can. He had a tremendous heart. He was no nonsense, he was firm.”
