Growing your own foods in your own garden, or even in your own home, is a fantastic way to know exactly where it has come from.

Simon Akeroyd is on a mission to show people “how you can grow your own food from produce bought at the supermarket or grocery store” to make it less complicated for you.

Taking to his TikTok, he showed people a “gourmet treat” that you can “grow indoors within ten days,” meaning that the fruits of your labour will be available to you very quickly.

He recommended that you pick up a pack of Bachelor’s Bigga dried peas, selected marrowfats from your local supermarket.

“Pop to the shops to buy a pack of dried peas,” he urged. Then, when you’re at home, “use a supermarket container with holes in the bottom”.

You need to get “peat-free compost” and fill the container up with it. Then, you should “sprinkle a handful of supermarket dried peas on the surface,” then “cover them over with more compost”.

He said then you need to place it all on a “warm windowsill,” and “after just four days,” he showed the amazing results he’d already got from the peas.

In ten days, the pea shoots were huge, as he cut them off and wrote over the top of the video: “Pea tendrils and shoots are a gourmet treat”.

He said that they’re “delicious, healthy, and rare to find at the shops,” which is even more reason for you to give them a go for yourself.

When you’ve grown your own food, you’ll feel so accomplished and proud.

In the comments, one person asked: “What does it taste like?” Another penned: “My late mum grew her peas from food grade dried peas like this, had great crops every time”.

“If you continue to grow them, would they become plants that give peas?” one man asked. Simon responded: “Hi, yes they would! Last year I did a video on growing them to produce pods…and delicious peas”.

Even though it’s uncommon to find pea shoots in everyday supermarkets, there are some places that stock them. One commenter pointed out: “Really nice, they taste like peas. I buy mine in Sainsbury’s”.
