I made Meghan Markle and Princess Kate’s green juice recipes

Both the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex are well-known for their rather healthy diets, which are packed full of fruits, vegetables, and plenty of superfruits.

One healthy drink they both enjoy is green juice, which can be made from various fruits and vegetables, with both royals opting for their own distinct recipes.

Back in 2015, a few years before she married Prince Harry, Meghan Markle shared her green juice recipe in an interview with Today, revealing that she would prefer to drink this healthy juice than a cup of coffee while she was filming Suits.

She told the outlet: “It’s easy to fall into the trap of rushing for a coffee when you hit that 4pm slump.

“But if I blend some apple, kale, spinach, lemon, and ginger in my Vitamix in the morning and bring it to work, I always find that sipping on that is a much better boost than a cup of espresso.”

Meanwhile, reports have claimed that Kate’s go-to green juice consists of kale, spirulina, matcha, spinach, romaine, and blueberries. Both of these sounded healthy, but perhaps not the most delicious of drinks, but still, I decided it was worth giving them both a go.

Now the best green juice I’ve ever had was one from BLOK fitness studios, that from my memory contained a mix of these ingredients, with some added protein.

But, it would prove rather unaffordable to continuously buy green juices, so I figured it would be a bit better for my purse if I made some at home – and where better to start than with these Royal-approved recipes.

Ingredients:

  • Apple, cored and sliced
  • A handful of kale
  • A handful of spinach
  • Juice of one lemon
  • An inch of ginger

Verdict

I tried making this green juice a couple of times during my week-long attempt to follow Meghan’s diet and found myself adding more ginger each time.

My first attempt was rather plain, hence the need to add more ginger, which remained a problem each time I remade this green juice – although by the end of the week it did have more flavour, but that flavour was pretty much just ginger.

I also switched between water and almond milk when adding liquid to this, with the juice definitely tasting a bit better with the almond milk rather than the water.

While it was rather plain, this green juice does have the benefit of being rather cheap – and was made mostly out of ingredients you’ll likely have in your fridge or fruit bowl already meaning while you might run out of these slightly faster you won’t need to run out for any specialist ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Kale
  • Spinach
  • Romaine
  • Blueberries
  • Teaspoon of spirulina powder
  • About half a teaspoon of matcha powder

Verdict

I definitely preferred the taste of Kate’s green juice. However, it was still quite plain and lacking in flavour – something I’ve not found in pre-bought green juices.

The addition of matcha also gave this green juice a slight caffeine boost, which was sadly lacking in Meghan’s. Another difference is the time of day the royals opt to drink their juices, with Kate’s serving as an early morning boost, perhaps the reason for the added caffeine.

While I did prefer the taste of Kate’s green juice, I think my wallet may have preferred Meghan’s, with the addition of spirulina and matcha certainly adding to the price tag.

I purchased both of these from Holland and Barrett, with 200g of Spirulina costing £9.99, and the same measure of Matcha coming to £9.00. Both of these should last quite a while, so perhaps many more green juices will be in future – hopefully more flavoursome than these Royal recipes though.
