Four budget-friendly destinations shared by travel expert | Europe | Travel

With holidays becoming increasingly expensive, those hoping to jet off later in the year may find themselves searching for more budget-friendly options.

Flights, accommodation, and then food and drinks while away can all lead to holidays costing an arm and a leg, depending on your choice of destination – but there are some that come out much cheaper than others.

One travel expert who visited 17 different countries last year and spent an average of just £186 per country, has shared her recommendations for some budget-friendly destinations.

Taking to Instagram, travel influencer Ems Budget Travel, shared a video, which she captioned: “Top 3 most underrated budget destinations I visited last year around a full time job.”

Although, in the video, she then shared four different locations – two of which are located within the same region and can both visited on the same trip.

Em’s first destination was Jordan, which can be flown to from London Luton for £48, and if you fly to Rome first flights are available for €30. Recommending the country, she said: “This is a country I will 100% be revisiting.

“As I was only here for five days, and although I did manage to fit in a lot, there is still so much I want to do here. We stayed in the capital city Amman and then we did day trips from here to Petra and the Dead Sea.”

She then added that these were things that she’d wanted to do for years and that one thing that stood out in Jordan was that the locals were extremely welcoming, and she felt very safe while visiting the country.

Em’s second recommendation was the Baltic region of Europe, and she shared that last year, she enjoyed a solo trip to the region, visiting Latvia’s Riga and the Lithuania city of Vilnius.

Flights from London to Vilnius start at £17, and a train from there to Riga will set you back by a further €24. Em shared that both cities would be perfect for city breaks and recommended taking day trips to the Hill of Crosses and Trackai Castle.

She then added that if you only have the opportunity to visit one of these cities, Vilnius is the slightly cheaper option. A pint of beer in Vilnius will cost an average of £2.65, while in Riga, this increases up to £3.60—still a rather cheap choice.

Em’s final recommendation was Armenia, another location where a pint of beer costs around £2. While there are no direct flights from the UK, she advertised that she found cheap flights via Italy.

Recalling her stay, she said, “I went here with very little knowledge of the country, but I was really blown away. We stayed in the capital city of Yerevan, and we did a day trip to the surrounding area. It’s a really interesting city and very affordable compared to most European cities, at least for accommodation and transport.”
