Obama sends four-word message to Eagles after Trump exits Super Bowl | NFL | Sport

Barack Obama has cheered on the Philadelphia Eagles with an upbeat “second time’s the charm” message following their stunning Super Bowl LIX triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs. The NFC East team delivered a jaw-dropping display, completely overpowering the two-time defending champions, who seemed unrecognisable as they struggled to keep up with the Eagles’ relentless pace.

Nick Sirianni’s squad overturned expectations and practically sealed their victory by half-time, eventually claiming a dominant 40-22 win amidst a fervent atmosphere at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. A-listers such as President Donald Trump and popstar Taylor Swift were in attendance to witness the dramatic event.

However, Trump, a vocal supporter of the Chiefs, made a hasty exit before the fourth quarter began, clearly disappointed by the unfolding events. This emphatic win served as sweet redemption for the Eagles, who had lost to the Chiefs in Arizona during the 2023 edition. The victory landed the Eagles their second Super Bowl title and thwarted Kansas City’s historic bid for three consecutive titles, reports the Irish Star.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Obama conveyed his pride and congratulations: “Second time’s the charm. Congrats to the @Eagles, Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, Nick Sirianni and an outstanding defense for winning one for Philly. You earned it!”.

Trump seized the spotlight as he became the first sitting President to grace the Super Bowl with his presence. On what was a remarkable evening in New Orleans, the 78-year-old looked to be thoroughly enjoying the occasion, visibly supporting the Chiefs and drawing attention with a military salute during the national anthem.

He didn’t hide his amusement when global superstar and Kamala Harris supporter Taylor Swift faced a chorus of boos from the stadium crowd, later relishing the moment on Truth Social. “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving! ” Trump gleefully posted.

In an interview before the event with FOX News, the 47th US President lavished compliments on Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany, whom he counts among his supporters. Brittany has shown support for Trump publicly, while Patrick is also rumored to admire the President.

Trump revealed his backing for the Chiefs based on personal affinity, stating: “I’ve watched this great quarterback, who’s got a phenomenal wife, she is a Trump fan and a MAGA fan, I happen to love her, she’s a great person. I have to go with Kansas City.”
