The Duchess of Edinburgh tried to play crazy golf in Windsor today – but it all ended up going horribly wrong as she was hit by a ball she had hit herself.

The 59-year-old could be seen wincing as the ball flew towards her face, with photographer Tim Rooke managing to capture the moment.

Sophie was visiting Legoland in her capacity as Patron of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).

Taking to X, alongside some pictures of the moment, Tim wrote: “Sophie Duchess of Edinburgh manages to hit herself with the ball while playing crazy golf at Legoland Windsor.

“The Duchess was launching NSPCC Numbers Day 2025.”

During a game of crazy golf, the royal hit the ball with the golf club – all before it quickly bounced back and hit her in the face.

Sophie, who is mum of 20-year-old Lady Louise Windsor and 16-year-old James, Earl of Wessex, can be seen turning her face to the side as she was struck in the head.

Legoland was hosting an event to mark the launch of the NSPCC’s annual Number Day, which takes place on February 7.

Sophie’s accident came shortly after it emerged that Queen Camilla is currently resting at home after falling unwell with a chest infection.

Buckingham Palace confirmed earlier today that the 77-year-old is cancelling a string of engagements this week, including the Field of Remembrance on Thursday.

This engagement will be attended by the Duchess of Gloucester in Camilla’s absence.

The Palace also shared that the Queen is hoping to be well enough to attend the royal events this weekend.
