UK households could save at least £500 on their energy bills by making one simple upgrade to their properties, experts have revealed.
Energy prices have soared by a staggering 43% since 2019 due to a spike in international gas prices, as the cost of living crisis bites.
However, homeowners who can afford to install solar panels on their properties could be offered some respite.
According to industry professionals at Grant Store, the move could save you up to £509 a year.
They told Birmingham Live: “Adding solar panels to your home is one of the simplest ways to cut energy costs. The average household can save up to £509 a year by switching to solar power, and those savings really add up over time, helping to cover the initial cost of installation.”
While you may be thinking solar panels may be of no use in the darkness of winter as temperatures plummet, Grant Store has assured that solar panels work by generating electricity from daylight – not just sunshine.
This means they’ll still produce energy on cloudy days.
The experts said: “They’re perfect for British weather. You can use the power straight away to lower your bills or even sell any extra electricity back to the grid.
“Solar panels aren’t just about saving money; they give you a bit more control over your energy. When you’re not relying so much on the grid, you’re less affected by price hikes and power cuts. That kind of peace of mind is worth a lot.”
Solar panels can also last for decades, making them a solid long-term investment.
Grant Stories added: “Once the panels are up and running, they’ll last for decades, saving you money year after year. For a lot of people, it’s a way to take control of rising energy prices and plan for the future.”
It comes as a recent survey found over 1.7 million households will not turn on their heating this winter, an increase of nearly 75% since last year. Over half (55%) said this was due to rising living costs.
However, there are other, cheaper methods to save money on bills.
A new campaign has been launched to highlight the steps households can take to reduce their energy usage and save money on their fuel costs.
It is estimated that by making simple changes, such as adjusting heating controls, taking a shower instead of a bath or switching to LED lights, households could save around £356 a year on their bills.
