Bob Geldof admits sneaking drugs into the UK as without them the ‘gig can't go on’

Bob Geldof has admitted sneaking drugs into the UK when he returns from trips to Australia as the “gig can’t go on” otherwise.

The Boomtown Rats singer, famed for co-writing the Band Aid track Do They Know It’s Christmas?, recently revealed that he enjoys a very specific morning routine.

In addition to a strong black tea, Bob said he has to take two tablets, but the singer-songwriter faces a major issue as they’ve “banned the f***ing thing in England”.

Yet, it would appear that the political activist, 73, isn’t afraid of bending a few rules to ensure he doesn’t have to endure feeling a “bit sore and stiff”.

Bob told the Mail: “When I wake up, I have to have strong black tea, and then I have to take two Aspro Clear tablets.”

He described the routine as a “direct injection” or a “mainline into your system” as it’s soluble aspirin, adding that it “loosens” him up when he’s feeling a “bit sore and stiff” from the previous night.

He added: “Problem is, they banned the f***ing thing in England for some stupid reason. So when we come to Australia, we stock up and sneak them back into the UK – or else, simply, the gig can’t go on.”

Aspro Clear tablets were reportedly discontinued back in 2022, but other brands of aspirin are widely available in the UK, both the soluble and tablet versions.

The NHS says aspirin is a commonly used painkiller taken for headaches, toothache and period paid, as well to bring down temperatures and help people tackle cold or flu symptoms.

If you’ve suffered from a stroke or heart attack, a doctor may suggest that you take a daily low-dose aspirin. It’s also used when someone is having an active heart attack.

The NHS said it could help those who are having a heart attack to chew and swallow an aspirin tablet (300mg is ideal) while waiting for an ambulance, providing the individual isn’t allergic.

In October last year, Bob was in Australia’s Gold Coast filming scenes for his new film, Zombie Plane, with the star spotted wearing a green and orange tracksuit and sunglasses.

Bob, who also appeared in Pink Floyd: The Wall and Spice World, stars alongside Chuck Norris and Vanilla Ice.
